Volume 9 of the series "Les Cahiers de la Compagnie d'Elite". The mounted grenadiers of the French Imperial Guard evolved directly from the Consul's Guard, which in turn evolved from the Directory Guard. However, they are not directly related to the mounted grenadiers of the royal household, although they were just as prestigious and elite as this former corps. They took part in the charge of the Guards' cavalry at Austerlitz and won immortal fame in their charge at Eylau on 8 February 1807.
They served in Spain, Austria and Russia. In 1813 and 1814 they were present in Dresden, Leipzig and especially Hanau, where they took the Austrian and Bavarian cavalry by surprise. This is the diary of one of their relatives, Guillaume Lecoq, which the reader can discover in the pages of this issue.
