Fouché himself estimated the number of emigrants at about 150,000 (when France had 20 million inhabitants), of whom about 20,000 took up arms for their God and their King from 1791 to 1815. From the royalist armies raised in 1791-1792 to the individual foreign services, sometimes extended until 1815, this deployment took many forms, especially within the framework of legions or emigrant corps that also came from Germany, Switzerland and even Liège.
Some of these will be presented here: Mirabeau's legion in Condé's army, regiments with the white cockade in English service, Damascene hussars in Dutch service, Hulans of the British legion of Saint-Domingue or even the Swiss legion of Managhetta.
