Volume 10 of the series "Les Cahiers de la Compagnie d'Elite". The Guides de la Impériale have gone down in history less for their battles than for the close connection of the regiment with the person of the sovereign, and only this formation can claim such a prominent position. The Guides owe their position not to a special status - unlike the Hundred Guards, who were part of the Emperor's military household - but to a prestigious precedent, that of Bonaparte's Guides, who became Chasseurs à cheval de la Garde.
This legacy was wisely taken up by Count Fleury in particular. The future colonel of the Guides was an unconditional Bonapartist, protagonist of the coup d'état of 1851 and close confidant of Napoleon III.
