Manufacturer
Volume 2 of the series "Les Cahiers de la Compagnie d'Elite". It is in 1799 that the 76th Infantry Half Brigade, then part of the Army of Helvetia under the orders of General Masséna, lost its flags in the battle of Sernft against the Austrians. Later incorporated into the VI Corps of the Grande Armée, the 76th, under the command of Colonel Faure-Lajonquière, fought at Elchingen on 14 October 1805, a victory that would later earn Ney a ducal title. On the orders of the Duke of Elchingen, Colonel Faure-Lajonquière was sent to the Tyrol, where he took part in the defence of Bolzen on 18 November, and his once-lost flags were eventually found in the arsenal at Innsbruck.
How is this feat of arms interpreted by in a painting by Charles Meynier? Who was Dominique Vivant-Denon, the sponsor of this work? Without forgetting the man of 1805, this infantryman through whom these successes are linked. These topics are covered in the second volume of the series "La Compagnie d'Elite".
