The gripping memoirs of former SS-Untersturmführer Pfötsch put the reader right in the thick of the fighting in the largest tank battle in military history. As part of the "Zitadelle" enterprise, units of the "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" also took part in the attempt to cut off a Soviet front arc 200 kilometres long near Kursk in July 1943. A twelve-man group of SS Grenadiers under their SS Rottenführer was almost constantly in close combat during the two-week undertaking. This account of their experiences gives a first-hand account of the tremendous hardships, privations, pain and losses of those fateful days.
