The AMX 30, a highly mobile tank suitable for use in CBRN environments and equipped with an excellent 105mm gun developed in France, emerged from a DEFA project (Direction des études et fabrication darmements, the French state agency for armaments). The first AMX 30Bs entered service in 1967. Their chassis formed the basis for an entire family of vehicles, some of which are still in service in France and around the world today. The authors tell this story with over 250 photographs and technical drawings from the beginnings to the latest developments and numerous derivatives.
