Very little has been published about the missions of German submarines in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific during the Second World War.
Nevertheless, some 40 U-boats were stationed in Malaysia and the Dutch Indies to fight alongside the Japanese Navy against the Allies. Lawrence Paterson tells this story with great historical accuracy, made possible by years of research and interviews with former submarine captains.
Could these submarines have tipped the scales in favour of the Afrika Korps in Egypt in 1942? Were the U-boats tasked with attacking Australia or even the west coast of the USA? Were secret weapons and Nazi dignitaries transported to Japan on board the U-boats?
This book answers these and many other questions and helps to understand the key role of these submarines and to unravel the mystery surrounding them.
