Description
The period around 1504 was a time of upheaval, also in fashion. Until now, it has been difficult to obtain information on the clothing of the period. Both research and the more practically orientated literature from the field of "living history" have left a gap between the second half of the 15th century and the period from around 1520. This volume closes this gap. It is not only aimed at anyone looking for contemporary sources for sewing, but also offers the latest scientific findings on the history of clothing at the end of the late Middle Ages.
It describes the most important items of clothing for men, women and children around 1500 - with sewing instructions and patterns. With only minor alterations, they can be used to create garments for almost all classes of the time. This volume owes its origins to the famous Peter and Paul Festival in Bretten, which was recently included in the German UNESCO Commission's "Nationwide List of Intangible Cultural Heritage". Every year, the events of the siege of the town in the Landshut War of Succession in 1504 are re-enacted here. Long-standing active participants not only summarised their practical experience in tailoring, but also took an academic look at the most diverse areas of the late Middle Ages. This volume is a great result of this work.
