Zitkala-sa (1876-1938) was a Dakota Indian. The years of her carefree childhood with her tribe as well as her traumatic experiences in a boarding school are - among other stories - the subject of her book "American Indian Stories", published in 1921. Her first book, "Old Indian Legends", was already published in 1901 and contains, among other things, a cycle of stories about Iktomi, the spider man. "Red Bird Tells" contains the complete texts of the two books published by Zitkala-sa and other texts from her pen.
