The Story of a Blackfeet Warrior
Montana 1830, Crane Woman, a young Blackfeet Indian woman, grieves stunned for her slain brother. In a vision she is commanded to live as a warrior. She begins to wear men's clothing and joins a revenge campaign against the enemies. Severely injured, she remains behind and is captured by Nata-He-Yukan, a Lakota warrior, who takes her as his wife against her vision. The story leads the main characters into warlike confrontations with hostile tribes, but also with a bitter adversary of Nata-He-Yukan, and interweaves with the history of the fur trade and the founding of the first trading forts among the Blackfeet. The author speaks an Indian language and writes her books in collaboration with Indian friends. Thus this book offers not only very exciting entertainment, but also well-founded information about the history, culture and religion of the Indian tribes, as well as about the little-known culture of the warrior women among the Plains tribes.
Kerstin Gröper
Kerstin Gröper, born in Berlin as the daughter of the writer Klaus Gröper, spent part of her life in Canada. In contact with North American Indians she discovered her love for Indian history, culture and language. She speaks Lakota, the language of the Teton Sioux, is an active member of an association dedicated to supporting the continuation of the language and culture of the Teton Sioux Through many conversations with Indian friends and advisors, she succeeds in conveying an authentic picture of the various tribes.
