One of the most significant historical events of the 18th century was the Seven Years' Wara conflict not confined to Europe alone, and one therefore referred to by some modern historians as the "first World War." In a struggle for colonial possessions, the Kingdom of Great Britain and France, in particular, waged war against one another across the globe. The clashes between these two nations over North America assumed particular significance within this broader conflict. In that region, the war is known as "The French and Indian War." This designation describes the nature of the fighting quite aptly: whereas the "French War"fought in the borderlands between Canada and the Colony of New Yorkwas often contested by the regular troops of the two powers, the "Indian War" took place primarily between colonial militias and warriors from various indigenous nations in the frontier regions, most notably in Pennsylvania. In this way, the indigenous peoples allied with France hoped to reclaim portions of the land they had lost to European settlers. This war is the subject of the present volume, which serves to complement the publication *Bourbonenlilie oder Georgskreuz* by the same author.
