Description
Many of us when we think of the words "civil war" one has in mind the war between the southerners and northerners, soldiers in blue or gray wearing floppy berrets and armed with muskets and swords. Men organised in battalions and regiments led by legendary generals such as Ulysses S. Grant, Robert Edward Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson, Sheridan and others. The more knowledgeable know the names of the most important battles such as Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Chickamauga, Atlanta and also the fact that the southerners surrender was signed at Appomattox. Some (not many) have also knowledge of the name of the various units involved in the clashes such as the Irish Brigade, the Iron Brigade, the Cavalry of Stuart and Mosby as well as the Brigade of Stonewall the 20th Maine, etc.
