This book is the first modern, comprehensive operational study in English of Italy's often misunderstood campaign against France in June 1940. Overshadowed by the German Blitzkrieg in the north and long dismissed as a symbolic or opportunistic sideshow, the Alpine Campaign was in reality a hard-fought, complex, and often brutal military operation in some of Europe's most challenging terrain. Using extensive Italian and French archival sources, official regimental histories, contemporary accounts, and postwar analyses, Massimiliano Afiero reconstructs the campaign from the strategic decisions made in Rome to the final armistice negotiations at Villa Incisa.
