The history of Italian volunteers is reflected in the various formations of the Waffen-SS that were established after the Italian surrender on 8 September 1943. In addition to the history of the well-known Italian Waffen-SS formations, including the 29th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (Italian No. 1) and the 24th Waffen Mountain (Karstjaeger) Division of the SS, this publication also describes the lesser-known Waffen-SS units formed from mainly Italian volunteers.
Some of these units were sent to the Eastern Front, some to Normandy and still others even to war theatres on the Baltic Sea. The story of these Italian Waffen SS formations is accompanied by numerous unpublished photographs and documents of the main players. In this new edition, the texts have been completely revised and updated, new chapters have been inserted and hundreds more photos have been added.
