This volume of the series "Sicilia. WW2" series deals with one of the most difficult subjects of the entire conflict, namely the mythical aerodromes of Gerbini and Catania. The book brings together a series of more than 200 mostly unpublished Italian and German photographs, ranging from the creation of the Fontanarossa and Gerbini airfields in Catania to the bombing raids of 1943.
Both Fontanarossa and Gerbini are meticulously treated, with the location of the numerous runways determined by maps and surveys of the time. There is no lack of corroboration, such as the correspondence of today's Italian-American bases at Sigonella with those of that time.
