Description
Widely unknown are the efforts of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler and his black leadership to conduct their own scientific-technical research and development for the equipment of SS troops as well as for various subversive, intelligence purposes - bypassing the Army Weapons Office. This book deals with this in detail for the first time, always on the basis of many previously unpublished documents as well as other evidence. It reveals the goals and mechanisms of SS weapons research, describes the institutions, e.g. Versuchsanstalt für Strahltriebwerke Großendorf, Technische SS- und Polizeiakademie Brünn, and the projects they pursued in fields such as hollow charge projectiles, explosives, powder, infantry mines, rocket launchers, incendiary and combat materials or communications technology. It names the SS leaders and SS researchers responsible as well as the scientists otherwise involved and analyses the results achieved. Much space is devoted to the abuse of prisoners who were forced to do research for the SS in various concentration camps or who were the victims of criminal experiments. The book reveals how numerous perpetrators and those who cooperated with them survived the end of the war almost unscathed, concealed or trivialised their SS activities and started new careers. The findings of this book are reason to reconsider the person of Himmler with regard to his technical expertise; as well as the dangerousness of the SS if it had been able to realise its far-reaching, murderous goals.
