In this work, the author draws on extensive material not previously available to the reader on the four days and nights of heavy and loss-laden defensive fighting in the area of the Seelow Heights and into Märkische Schweiz. With the application of the large-scale combat method and the consistent exploitation of the terrain, the numerically far outnumbered German units succeeded in considerably slowing down the attack speed of the Soviet troops, preventing the two armoured guard armies from breaking away from the infantry and quickly advancing towards Berlin. A special place is occupied by the violent reconnaissance of the Soviet troops which preceded the general attack and with which the Battle of the Heights already began.
