A satirical utopian science fiction novel. "The Steel Dream" is probably Norman Spinrad's most successful work. No wonder really, a novel with a counterfactual Hitler background always sells better than a book without it. In Germany, "Der Stählerne Traum" was published by "Heyne Verlag" in 1979 in the translation by Walter Brumm used for the present edition (which has nevertheless been revised) and has had several subsequent editions. Of course, it makes a difference whether a novel is published somewhere in the world or in Germany. Those interested in the political background as well as in mental illness are recommended to read the accompanying history of the first German publication of "The Steel Dream".
