Volume 1 of the series "Stahlzeit. The Other World War". In November 1942 the unbelievable happens: Adolf Hitler, the "Führer", suffers a fatal accident and leaves behind a gigantic power vacuum. The OKW seizes the opportunity to eliminate the disunited Nazi leadership and form a military government that puts an end to the Nazi atrocities and tries to manoeuvre the Reich out of its misery. It quickly becomes clear that if Germany wants to be treated as an equal partner in the peace negotiations it is seeking, the Wehrmacht must first achieve at least a military stalemate. First, the exposed troops of the 6th Army are withdrawn from the Stalingrad area and thus saved from encirclement. Then, in May 1943, the decision was to be made on the Eastern Front: In the Kursk front arc, the opportunity presents itself to encircle and destroy large contingents of Soviet troops, to decisively straighten the front and to anticipate the expected Soviet summer offensive.
