Description
Volume 39 of the series "Imágenes de Guerra" deals with the battle between German and Soviet tanks at Prokhorovka in the course of the "Citadel" enterprise in July 1943. This episode from the great battle at Kursk is considered the greatest tank battle in history. To this day, many myths and inconsistencies surround this confrontation.
The figures given by the Soviets in their official accounts regarding destroyed enemy tanks as well as the course of the battle have been and continue to be the subject of discussion. This work is therefore devoted to a detailed study of this battle, analysing the performance of the tank formations of both sides, calculating the losses of the Germans and the Red Army day by day, and showing how close the Germans came to achieving their objectives despite everything that stood in their way. In addition, it contains an analysis of the use of the then-new German medium-weight armoured fighting vehicle V "Panther" in the fighting at Prokhorovka.
