This book traces the lives, characters and careers of the most important military personalities behind Napoleon I. It shows that the marshals of Napoleon I were the most important military figures in the world. It shows that the marshals had reached the highest command posts in the republican army as a result of the Revolution. Most were of bourgeois origin, some were of nobility. Most of them had served in the royal army before. The 26 marshals appointed during the eleven years of the Empire had one thing in common. - They experienced a meteoric rise. This book focuses on the achievements of the 26 marshals in the period between 1792 and 1815, but also on their lesser-known careers after the collapse of the Napoleonic Empire and their sometimes significant political and military role in Europe until the early 1950s. Paperback with colour illustrations. 214 pages.
