The AMX "Ghibli" single-engine ground attack aircraft is the result of co-operation between the Italian and Brazilian aircraft industries. The project was launched in the 1980s to replace the obsolete Fiat G-91Y fighter-bombers in the Italian Air Force. To this need was added the need of Brazilian aviation to replace the MB-326. The AMX has an aerodynamic layout characterised by the high swept wing configuration and can reach a top speed of 1,000 km/h thanks to its Rolls-Royce Spey 807 engine. In its Italian version, it is equipped with an M61 Vulcan 20 mm cannon and can carry 3,800 kg of offensive armament. The two-seat AMX-T version was designed and developed as an advanced training aircraft, but it can also carry out ground attack and close air support missions. This version was acquired by the Italian Air Force in 26 units.
