Exclusive resin model kits
Custom-Scale is a well-known manufacturer of small-series model kits, specialising in high-quality resin models of military and special-purpose vehicles. The brand enjoys an excellent reputation, especially among experienced model builders and professionals, as it offers vehicles that are rarely or never found in the product ranges of classic large-scale manufacturers. Custom-Scale stands for niche models, high detail and a clear focus on conceptual and historical plausibility, especially in the field of unusual military vehicles.
The resin kits are primarily aimed at advanced model builders, as they require experience in working with resin. In return, they offer an excellent basis for realistic, individually refined exhibits and challenging conversion projects.
History & origin of Custom-Scale
Custom-Scale is the brand of German small-series manufacturer Michael Baldeweg. The company is based in Berlin and has been producing high-quality resin model kits under the name Custom-Scale since 2014.
In 2019, Baldeweg expanded its range with plastic model kits under the 16.02 brand. Since then, kits produced in China have been released under this label. While classic injection-moulded models are manufactured under the 16.02 brand, Custom-Scale's clear focus remains on small-batch resin models.
Resin specialist with a passion for model making
Michael Baldeweg has been enthusiastic about model making since he was a child. He built his first model together with his father: the Calypso, Jacques-Yves Cousteau's research vessel, as a Revell kit. Many more models followed, carefully built and painted.
Later, he eventually moved on to resin model making. Today, Michael Baldeweg is considered a proven resin specialist with Custom-Scale, as is Combrig, for example.
Resin models from a Berlin manufacturer
The trained heating and ventilation engineer runs his model-making company as a genuine manufacturer in a basement room. Although machines are also used, most of the work is done by hand from casting and cleaning to packaging.
Despite the cost-intensive small-batch production, the company continuously invests in new projects and is constantly expanding its product range.
Thematically, the Custom Scale resin models focus heavily on What-if-46 vehicles of the German Wehrmacht, i.e. conceptual or hypothetical developments from the late phase of the Second World War.
To date, around 130 resin kits have been produced under the Custom-Scale name, which can also be reproduced if required. Plastic kits have been sold under the 16.02 plastic label since 2019.
In a nutshell
Custom-Scale stands for high-quality resin model making, handcrafted production and unusual themes, similar to the manufacturer Hasegawa with its sci-fi kits. The manufacturer clearly stands out from the mass market with rare models, what-if concepts and a high level of detail. The kits are only suitable for beginners to a limited extent, but for experienced model builders they offer a particularly challenging and individual modelling experience with all the fun that goes with it. If you are looking for rare military vehicles, prototypes or alternative development lines, Custom-Scale is one of the most interesting addresses in international resin model making.
