Description
The Bedford QL range of military lorries was introduced in the late 1930s at the request of the British Army to provide a more modern and flexible transport vehicle. Trials were completed in 1940 and Bedford QLs were distributed to operational divisions in early 1941. Throughout the war, it was used on the various fronts and proved to be a valuable asset in meeting logistics and transport needs thanks to its four-wheel drive and relatively low weight, which increased its load capacity. Due to its flexibility and robustness, it was also used for towing and transporting artillery pieces such as the 6 Pdr anti-tank gun or the 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun. Equipped with a 72 hp 6-cylinder petrol engine, it was also characterised by its ease of maintenance and repair, an important element on the battlefields.
