This truly impressive aircraft was originally delivered by Lockheed in 1971 and entered service at Dover Air Force Base in the US state of Delaware on the east coast in 1973. The following year, the US Air Force carried out a unique test in which this C-5A jettisoned a Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile whilst in flight. It later served for several years with the Tennessee Air National Guard and was deployed on missions around the globe. A good forty years after entering service, the aircraft was finally withdrawn from active duty in 2013 and can now be admired as arguably the largest exhibit at the Air Mobility Command Museum, also based in Dover.
