A small, colourful troop of Luckner Hussars setting off for battle. The officer gives the order to attack.
Luckner'sches Husaren-Corps - established by Luckner in 1757 (Kfsm. Braunschweig-Lüneburg, - Kurhannover-), in Prussian service. First uniform of 1757 with winged cap, green dolman with yellow lacing, red trousers, green fur..
Relations with Prussia were traditionally close, with 16,000 Hanoverians - Lüneburgers - Brunswickers, for example, fighting alongside the Prussians during the Seven Years' War, partly financed by English subsidy payments.
Count Luckner, head of the electoral Hanoverian hussars of the same name, entered Prussian service on 1 May 1757. From then on, the hussars were tirelessly deployed in many operations during the Seven Years' War.
At the outbreak of the Seven Years' War, he entered Hanoverian service as a major in 1757. Luckner began as commander of a hussar corps of 54 men. He distinguished himself against the French at Krefeld, Marburg, Eisenach, Göttingen, Hamelin, Kassel and Northeim and waged a kind of guerrilla warfare with his hussars in the enemy's rear. He was successful in destroying supply columns and in night raids. In August 1759, he captured the French marshal's portfolio containing secret instructions from the Ministry of War. He was promoted to colonel in the same year.
In 1761, Luckner, who had risen to the rank of lieutenant general, commanded a regiment and had a legendary reputation. When his regiment was disbanded at the end of the war, he threw his general's coat, adorned with all his decorations, into the open fire in front of the assembled officer corps and asked to be discharged.
