Franz Carl Spitzweg (also obsolete: Karl Spitzweg; * 5 February 1808 in Unterpfaffenhofen; 23 September 1885 in Munich) was a well-known German, late Romantic painter. Carl Spitzweg created over 1500 paintings and drawings. Spitzweg depicted people in their contemporary bourgeois milieu. In small-format pictures he depicted the Biedermeier petty bourgeoisie, oddballs and romantic incidents.
