Franz Carl Spitzweg (obsolete also: Karl Spitzweg; * 5 February 1808 in Unterpfaffenhofen; 23 September 1885 in Munich) was a well-known German late Romantic painter. Carl Spitzweg created over 1500 paintings and drawings. Spitzweg depicted people in the bourgeois milieu of his time. In small-format pictures, he depicted the Biedermeier petty bourgeoisie, eccentric oddballs and romantic events. He depicted human weaknesses, but not the wicked or the vulgar; Spitzweg was a stranger to anything coarse. - Wikipedia -
