A milkboy (milkman) is a delivery person who delivers milk, often directly to customers' houses.
From about 1881, horse-drawn carriages were introduced, each with a boy as coachman (popularly called Bolle because of the inscription on the carriage) and a milkmaid (Bolle-Mädchen), who delivered the milk and carried the cash in a leather bag tied around her. Both were uniformed. Bolle and Bolle-girl were considered a popular part of the townscape, spreading news and cheeky sayings. - Wikipedia -
