They were all officers. They all served on the front line. They were all highly decorated for their service. Five World War II veterans of the Army, Waffen-SS, Air Force and Navy now provide a unique insight into the most difficult time of their lives: The son of the former Reich Foreign Minister, Rudolf von Ribbentrop, tells of his battles at Kursk. Oak leaf bearer Heinz Rökker describes his missions as a night fighter and how he met Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring. Reserve Lieutenant Ernst Büntgens tells how he lost his eye and yet reported back to the front. Assault gun commander Dr Alfred Regeniter, whose records are the only ones of the 276 Assault Gun Brigade, experienced the fall of West and East Prussia on the front line. Alfred Eick, commander of U-510, spent several months in faraway Japan and is one of the most successful submariners.
