Born in 1926, Albert Sudhoff describes the first 19 years of his life in this memoir. He vividly describes the economic and political situation in Germany in the 1930s.
After completing his apprenticeship as a bricklayer and his Reich Labour Service, he volunteered for the Waffen-SS. As an SS tank reconnaissance officer, he joins the 11th SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division "Nordland" and is deployed in the Narwa area. He took part in the retreat fighting in Estonia
, was wounded in the process and transferred across the Baltic Sea to a home hospital. Severely wounded and taken prisoner by the US in April 1945, he embarks on a long odyssey through Allied camps.
