This volume presents the memoirs of three veterans of the Waffen-SS. Dr Karl Schikorski served in the SS division "Wiking" and took part in the Caucasus campaign, was wounded and eventually studied medicine. After a short period of service in the Luftwaffe, the final battle followed in the city of Breslau, which had been declared a fortress.
Erich Rommel briefly belonged to the "Reichsführer-SS" escort battalion and was then transferred to the 14th SS Volunteer Division "Galicia". Together with the Ukrainian war volunteers of this unit, he experienced the Kessel of Brody as well as the operations until the end of the war in the Reichsschutzstellung. The last section of the book contains the experiences of an Alsatian volunteer, Friedrich Georg Amos, who served in the 4th SS Police Panzer Grenadier Division. Of particular interest here are his recollections of the chequered history of the Alsatians before, during and after the Second World War. Of course, the cornerstones and framework data are given for all recollections.
