This book brings to life the memories of two members of the Waffen-SS. Erich Thöle joined the Waffen-SS in 1941 at the age of 18 and served in SS Cavalry Regiment 17, among others, with which he was deployed to Kowel in January 1944. Seriously wounded there, his next and last assignment followed in 1945 in the veterinary company of the 28th SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Wallonia (Walloon No. 1) on the Oder front. Martin Glade was drafted into the SS Panzergrenadier Training and Replacement Battalion 12 in Kaiserslautern in 1944 at the age of 17. After his basic training, he took part in the fighting in Hungary in 1945 as part of the SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 26 of the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitler Youth.
