This book gives the memoirs of three German soldiers, two of whom belonged directly to the Waffen-SS and the third, as a member of the army, was considered detached to the Waffen-SS for two years. Anton Fehlau joined the "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" as an 18-year-old in 1941 and was transferred as a gunner to the SS Panzer Artillery Regiment 2 "Das Reich". Here he took part in the operations on the Eastern and Western Fronts.
Alfred Kettler was drafted into the Kraftfahr-Ersatz-Abteilung 12 at the age of 20 in 1940 and two years later was transferred to the newly formed Korps-Nachrichten-Abteilung 400. This was subordinated to the likewise newly established SS Panzer Corps. Renamed SS-Korps-Nachrichten-Abteilung 102, Kettler belonged to this SS formation as a member of the army for almost two years until his capture in late summer 1944. Alvin Schlüter was drafted into the "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" in 1944 at the age of 16 and, after his basic training, took part in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. Still wounded in the last days of the war, American captivity followed.
