A volume from the series "History in Detail". In the final phase of World War 1, Finland suffered a bloody civil war between pro-Soviet "Reds" and bourgeois "Whites". At the end of the 1930s, the situation came to a head, partly as a result of the "Hitler-Stalin Pact", according to which Finland fell into the Soviet sphere of influence. The Finns responded negatively to the excessive Soviet demands and at the same time strengthened the so-called Mannerheim Line. Stalin, who saw himself as the liberator of the Finns, quickly realised how wrong he had been.
