Description
This book tells the story of all those volunteers of the German Army in the Spanish Civil War: the story of the tank crews, the instructors for infantry and for special units ("Imker Ausbilder"), the instructors for the Spanish Falange ("Gruppe Issendorf"), the Horchkompanie - i.e. radio reconnaissance company ("Imker Wolm") -, the intelligence division ("Imker Ic") and ... and ... and ... A complete, detailed and stirring history that reveals for the first time many hitherto little-known aspects of the German role in the Spanish Civil War.
In early October 1936, two German merchant ships docked in the port of Seville, loaded with quite a few Panzerkampfwagen I and all the accessories and personnel needed to set up the first armoured unit in General Franco's army: The so-called "Panzer Group Drone". At the head of this contingent, the Reich government placed a lieutenant colonel who was one of the pioneers of German army motorisation. His name: Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma.
