Zwilling, R- The Fennek Reconnaissance Vehicle in MOdern German Army Service

As the "Luchs" armoured reconnaissance vehicle of the Bundeswehr's armoured reconnaissance unit was getting on in years, it was high time for the development and procurement of a new armoured reconnaissance and surveillance vehicle. The handover of the first "Fennek" reconnaissance vehicle on 10 December 2003 at the Panzertruppenschule Munster can therefore be seen as a milestone for the reconnaissance force. The vehicles of the 1st batch consisted of 178 scout vehicles and 24 engineer reconnaissance vehicles. In addition, 4 "Fennek" in the artillery observation vehicle version were procured as immediate operational requirements, but were later converted. In parallel, the artillery developed two further "Fennek" variants designated as "Joint Fire Support Team" (JFST). In the meantime, 20 of these vehicles have been introduced. Thus, the Bundeswehr has procured 226 Fennek to date, some of which, however, have already been destroyed in action. This publication describes the development history and technology of the "Fennek" in all its variants in detail and with extensive pictorial material.
