They were the Emperor's exotics and the youngest regiments in the Imperial and Royal Army. The Bosniaks, formed in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1882, not only made a name for themselves as a Muslim European military unit. During the First World War, they also earned a reputation as loyal and fearless fighters for crown and empire. To this day, their memory is cherished by all Bosnians. Now the standard work on their history is finally available again - and at the same time a brilliant testimony to successful Muslim-European integration!
Werner Schachinger, born in 1926, attended the Höhere Technische Lehranstalt in Mödling but was interrupted by being called up for military service. It was not until 1949 that he was able to complete his studies - specialising in mechanical engineering - at the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum in Vienna. Since then, he worked in the higher technical service of the Lower Austrian government until his retirement. Provincial Government until his retirement.
