This book deals with the advance of the Vth US Corps from northern Thuringia to the Saale in the section Schkopau - Merseburg - Leuna - Weißenfels - Naumburg, with which the last attack of the Vth US Corps to the Allied Halt Line on the Elbe and Mulde was initiated. In addition to the occupation of the Lossa poison gas camp, the main focus here is on the city of Naumburg, which had become the target of American bomber units a few days before its occupation due to the military installations present in the city and had suffered a large number of casualties and damage in the process. The documentation is supplemented by a brief account of the events on the flanks of the V. US Corps, in particular the advance of the XX. US Corps of the 3rd US Army to the Saale in the Bad Kösen area and south of Naumburg.
