The first nearly 50 pages provide an overview of the history of the German police, the weapons used by German law enforcement officers 1900-1936, and the methods of identification of the equipment. Then the main section presents the myriad weapon and equipment stamps, arranged by province, using colour photographs, tables and a comprehensive explanatory text. The first main part deals with the stamps of the Prussian police, the second part documents the stamps of other provinces of the German Empire, e.g. Saxony and various southern German states, "occupied" territories such as Alsace-Lorraine or the colony of German South-West Africa, following the same pattern. The work also shows the markings of the financial, railway and water police.
