After World War II, the Soviet occupiers razed East Germany's only major truck manufacturer, VOMAG in Plauen, to the ground. However, trucks were urgently needed for reconstruction. Therefore, new production facilities were set up in the former Horch works in Zwickau and in the former wagon factory in Werdau, among others. In this volume, Ralf Weinreich describes the entire history of GDR commercial vehicle manufacturing, from the difficult beginnings after the war to the fall of the Wall. He portrays the most important trucks in East Germany as well as the most important imports.
