As is well known, railway guns are cannons on rails. What hardly anyone knows about, however, is the variety that existed of these monsters on rails. Built to inflict death and destruction over a distance of 100 kilometres or more, these cannons were considered the only means of inflicting damage behind enemy lines in a time when missiles did not exist. That these long-range weapons were mostly nothing but a waste of men and material is another matter. This special edition by Gerhard Taube shows and describes the development technology and use of German railway guns.
