The double-decker Airbus A380 is the largest mass-produced commercial aircraft in the world. Designed to compete with the market-leading Boeing 747, the four-engined giant took off on its maiden flight in 2005, delighting passengers and airlines with its performance. In the rapidly changing market, however, the A380 proved far too large and expensive to operate.
The Corona crisis did the rest. In 2021, Airbus therefore ceased production. The same happened with the Jumbo Jet. The era of the legendary four-engine passenger jet is thus coming to an end. A highly topical swan song.
