The Federal Police (formerly the Federal Border Police) is subordinate to the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and performs specialised police tasks, e.g. border protection, railway police tasks, aviation security and the protection of federal bodies. The Federal Police Air Service is responsible for monitoring the borders, including the North Sea and Baltic Sea, transporting police forces during large-scale operations, supporting the Federal Criminal Police Office and assisting in cases of serious accidents and disasters.
