The Mil Mi-24 is the Russian combat helicopter par excellence. Developed at the end of the 1960s, the model soon became the nightmare of Western military strategists, as the brute machine was superior to anything NATO had to offer and was soon nicknamed the "flying armoured personnel carrier". Not without reason: unlike Western combat helicopters, the Mi-24 could transport eight fully equipped soldiers and drop them in the middle of the battlefield - something no other combat helicopter could do.
