In this book, the editor brings together fourteen episodes in which men fought with each other. Starting with the duel with bow of Sinuhe against the Retenju chief in the Palestinian sand dunes around 2,000 BC to the "cage fight" of two martial artists in 2010 who give nothing to each other. Stories include the Baron de Jarnac's courtroom duel against the Sieur de la Chataigneraie in France in 1547, Jim Bowie and his "duel on the sandbar" in 1827, the last boxing match for the world heavyweight title without gloves over 75 rounds in 1889 and a police shootout in Murietta, California.
The book shows how the protagonists achieved their victories and that in real combat it is not bravado or heroism that counts, but a cool head and determination.
