This volume deals with the cavalry of the Turkish and Egyptian armies from the 1870s until after the First World War. From 1879 a series of standardised and regulated uniforms and insignia were introduced and the Turkish cavalry consisted of the regiments of Dragoons and Lancers, Hamidiye and Mounted Gendarmes. This volume then deals with the uniforms of the cavalry of the Turkish and later the nationalist army during the First World War and the Greco-Turkish War. The Egyptian cavalry can be divided into two main periods, before and after 1883 (when the new Egyptian army was officially formed). Following the changes in the British army during the same period, the khaki-coloured field service uniform was introduced in the Egyptian army after 1885, in addition to the traditional summer and winter dress, which was restricted to barracks dress.
