The author, who looks back on his military life in the Austrian Armed Forces with a wink in his memoirs, made it all the way to major general. His path was exciting and varied and also took him through general staff training. But before that, he was a dedicated - and successful - company commander for many years, which makes him stand out quite clearly. And this perspective of the troop officer, which has also accompanied him through his further service life, comes to the fore in his retrospective: commitment, comradeship and humour are his cornerstones and it is against them that he measures the content of his experiences.
