This diary, translated into English by Scott Bowden, describes the battles of 1805-1807 from the perspective of French Marshal Louis Davout.
Napoleon's Grande Armée of 1805-1807 was one of the greatest armies in history, and the 3rd Corps under the command of Marshal Louis Davout achieved peak performance on the battlefield. Davout's military prowess reached its peak on 14 October 1806 at the Battle of Auerstedt. Marshal Davout's 26,000-man corps defeated the Prussian army.
Marshal Davout's military records, presented to the French War Ministry in 1874 by his heirs, are an invaluable source for the study of the first campaigns of Napoleon's Grande Armée. The records include the reports of brigades, detachments and other commanders. They provide an amazing historical picture of the campaigns in Germany and Poland.
The original book, entitled Opérations du 3 e-Corp, was published by Davout's nephew in 1896. It has never been available in English until now. This book is the first translation of the original into English. It is supplemented by individual analyses, colour maps, colour illustrations of the battles, biographical details and other material.
