During World War II, the Allied bombing raids on the Peenemünde experimental facilities formed a focal point in the fight against the German secret weapons V-1 and V-2. In the past, a lot of false information was spread in the media about Peenemünde and the bombing raids. The author attempts to correct these accounts with the help of new research and references to the sources used.

The book begins with a detailed description of the Peenemünde test site, with its factories, the housing estate and the camps for the construction workers, prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates. In addition to the secrecy, camouflage and air protection of the inhabitants, the anti-aircraft protection of the facilities is also described. The air raids by the Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943/44 are given a large amount of space. For the first time, previously unpublished documents and eyewitness accounts of the bombing raids are made accessible to the public.
